These are all titles I wear with pride. For years, I tried to keep all of these titles neatly separated and compartmentalized into their own boxes. I’d pull out the “mom” title when I got home from work. Dip into the “author” role after the kiddos went to bed. And hid my love of pastels and color because I didn’t think people would take my career seriously if it was painted in pink.
In the literary world, I hid behind pen names because I was worried readers and literary agents wouldn’t consider me a committed author if they thought I changed genres quicker than some people change clothes. But oooooh boy, I have never been so happy to be WRONG.
As I’ve learned to unabashedly embrace ALL parts of me, my success as an author has only grown.
Today, I have 6 published books, 100s of 5-star Amazon book reviews, and a real, live literary agent (insert squeal). Pinch me. But, believe it or not, it keeps getting better! I also have coached over three hundred aspiring authors and am absolutely humbled to have a constantly growing community of genre-hoppers and multi-genre readers.
Because we’re all multi-faceted humans, why wouldn’t our bookshelves be too?
Around here, you’re inspired to chase your dreams of writing a book and hopping into as many genres as you please. I didn’t have anyone to give me permission to hop into different genres, try on different pen names, and explore every part of my writing abilities. And I certainly didn’t see any real-life examples of people who had done all that successfully.
